At this moment, I am a 60 year old lady living with a 61 year old husband of 41 years. I have a loving son, Scott, who is mentally challenged (aka mentally retarded), and a beautiful daughter, Dawn who lives near Boston with her husband and son. I never understood what all the hoopla was about being a grandparent - now I do! I am the poster child for the obnoxious old lady with photos in hand!

Snow in March Sucks!

The old adage says, March comes in like a lion and will go out like a lamb --- well, I sure hope so, because we had a lion roar through Tennessee this past week! I knew we were in trouble when they (the weather gurus) spoke of accumulations later in the week. They totally bypassed the word "possible" which always gives us hope for a near-miss.

We had sleet and rain on Tues- but Wed seemed okay- Then came Thurs night, Friday and oh! my God! Friday night. We awoke to 6 inches of snow! Now okay, I KNOW that is nothing to you hard core snow lovers - but now my snow "low-light" went out years ago. Even the mere mention of that word gives me hives.

Waking to find my world colored white was not pleasant. Add to that the knowledge that I had important tasks to complete that made travel necessary - and this wintry postcard look had worn out its welcome!

They say it will warm up today, giving me hope for a green (or slightly green & brown mix) yard. I hope all those who burn my butt with moans of "Oh! I love snow! I wish we had more!" got their thrills! As for me, I am dreaming of a warm and very long Spring!

Slowly, steadily moving forward!

A week has gone by since Sawyer's miracle doctor's visit! The feeling of gratitude has not subsided at all. However, before the glow dimmed, another doc added another obstacle to our path to ever lasting happiness. The cardiologist sent word to the pediatrician that he felt Sawyer should see a genetic specialist. Boy howdy! that little guy is not going to miss a speciality in the medical field! By the time he finishes, he will need a geriatrics guy too!!

I am sure there is some heart disease in both sides of Dawn's family. My Dad had a heart murmur, but was not affected by it. It was sufficient enough to keep him from being drafted into WW2, but he fought that tooth and nail and would have gone if they war had not ended when it did. (He was so disappointed!) Ed's family on his Dad's side has heart related problems, however, I am not sure how much is medically induced and how much is promoted by a very unhealthy lifestyle. I swear those folks do not consider it a meal unless it has an inch of bacon grease on top! Add to that a history of smoking and it is no big surprise that they have heart problems.

Today the early intervention folks came to evaluate Sawyer. He was his very sociable self and passed his socialization skills part with flying colors. The only thing he was weak on was his gross motor skills. (Walking pulling up etc.) I think if he had another healthy month - he would have that too. They wanted him to play with a doll, but he nixed that idea. He wanted the musical instruments.

And so after they return from a week in Florida, Sawyer will start getting visits from Early Intervention to promote his walking etc. A good thing - and he will sail through this in his typical "Sawyer" style.

I hope the weather is great in Florida - he needs a some warm days on the beach to chase off those cold MA germs. Safe trip little guy- soak up some rays for me!
