At this moment, I am a 60 year old lady living with a 61 year old husband of 41 years. I have a loving son, Scott, who is mentally challenged (aka mentally retarded), and a beautiful daughter, Dawn who lives near Boston with her husband and son. I never understood what all the hoopla was about being a grandparent - now I do! I am the poster child for the obnoxious old lady with photos in hand!

Early Christmas!

Many years ago, a baby was born into this world and mankind has never been the same. Throughout scriptures, children were held in reverance. Babies are pure and places were we historically place our faith and hopes and dreams.

Last September, Dawn and Greg came home for a short visit and to take Sawyer to Louisville for a consultation with a WS specialist. Before Greg left to return to MA, they shared with us that another baby was coming into our lives. A blessing, a thrill, a fear.

Because of tests that would be performed in a few weeks, they asked us to keep the announcement of our newest family dividend to ourself until everything was stable and the pressure of waiting for confirmation of this precious baby's good health was certain.

I can proudly say we did manage to hold it in for the 2+ months it took for everything to be tested and evaluated and declared safe and healthy and A GIRL!!

Yes folkes, it is true my precious little girl is expecting her own little girl in late April! Not quite so sure how thrilled Sawyer is going to be about this addition to his life. After all, he is the center of the universe . . . sharing "Mom" might be an issue, but I am sure she will handle it with the calm and capable way she has dealt with all the situations she has faced in her life.

Daughters! What can I say about daughters? They are different . . . they are a challenge . . .they are precious and sweet and demanding and I highly recommend everyone have one!

My husband wanted a daughter so badly when I was pregnant with our second child. To this day, he softens and nearly crumbles just to hear her name. Oh he disappeared from view when she had a disappointment as a teenager - but later would reappear and ask "Is she okay?" He would tell her to "toughen up" but would walk through fire for his little girl. He beamed with pride when she won a fishing derby at age 5 and brashly boasted of her bike riding and roller skating skills. I may have given birth to her, but she was always "Daddy's girl"

So we will wait this next 4+ months until this new little lady joins our family. I know it will not be easy for Dawn to cope with a new born and Sawyer with all his daily needs. Some may say it is not normal. But what is normal? Every family is different - each with their own personal challenges and triumphs. I think sometimes that we all watched too many episodes of the "Waltons" - where a housefull of kids all loved one another and always got along. Secretly I think Jim Bob did not like John Boy and the little one was a spoiled brat!

Yes, the world was altered by the birth of a baby - and our family will be blessed by the birth of another!
